What is SBS
The School of Biblical Studies (SBS) is a nine-month course in which students study through each of the incredible 66 books of the Bible 5 times. An inductive approach is taught, in which students observe what the text says and then let it shape their beliefs. In these nine months we study about God’s beating heart for the lost, our identity and fullness in Christ, and God’s plan of redemption for mankind.
Why do SBS
Whether you’re called to full time ministry in the unreached parts of the 10/40 window or to starting a business in your hometown, SBS will aid you in your calling. Having a Biblical foundation will influence how you live your life, make decisions and interact with others. SBS not only teaches you how to study the Bible for yourself, it also equips you with the tools needed to give Gods Word to others.
During the school, students survey each book and discover the big picture, while also digging into the details paragraph by paragraph. Emphasis is placed on understanding the cultural and historic background of each author and original reader of a book. The student interprets Scripture with the mindset of the original reader then takes the timeless truths and applies them personally. Students are given hands-on instruction in the principles of observation, interpretation, and application. SBS staff will meet weekly with the students to aid in their personal growth, understanding of Scripture, and application of the inductive method.
Day in the life
On an average week in the School of Biblical Studies, students will attend lectures on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Aside from lectures, students will spend approximately 50-60 hours per week studying the Scriptures. For nine months, the main responsibility for students is to study the Word! It’s truly a unique opportunity and privilege. There will also be times of worship, intercession, discipleship, and fun! Also, once a week there will be the opportunity to get out into the community through wake boarding, surfing, leading youth groups, helping at soup kitchens, and teaching on our New Testament Overview to the DTS’s.
Located about an hour north of Brisbane on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of Australia, students will have the opportunity to partake in daily activities such as: surfing, hiking, and exploring the endless coffee shops along the coast. The SBS property is walking distance to shops and a quick drive to the beach, so walking on the sand while enjoying the sunset is a favorite way to end the day for our students. Pool volleyball is also a favorite amongst students during study breaks. And for the surfers, the closest surf beach is an eight minute drive.
